What are Sky-Scapes®?
Sky-Scapes® bring the outdoors inside! They are decorative light diffusers designed to replace the existing diffusers over fluorescent lighting fixtures. They help to reduce the harsh glare of fluorescent lighting while providing a bright and colorful dimension to your environment. They are a truly unique addition to any room!
Who should use Sky-Scapes®?
Sky-Scapes® are so versatile that they can be used anywhere that fluorescent lighting exists. Dental offices, hospitals, care centers, medical offices, restaurants, and beauty salons have benefited from the lighting effects of Sky-Scapes®. They can also be used at home in kitchens, bathrooms, or garages and were featured on Extreme Makeover Home Edition, and Discovery Channel's Monster House. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to completely change the look of a room, Sky-Scapes® are for you!
How do you install Sky-Scapes®?
Sky-Scapes® are easy to install. Most installations can be done in minutes with minimal effort and only a few simple tools. Simply remove your existing fluorescent light cover and use it as a template to score your Sky-Scapes® to the correct size, then replace. We will provide instructions with your order for home or office installation.
What sizes are available?
Sky-Scapes® come in a standard size to fit most fluorescent fixtures. They measure 23¾ x 47¾. They are easily trimmed to fit smaller light fixtures using a razor knife.
Can I have a custom design diffuser made?
Yes! We can create just about any image on our panels. With our unique fabrication process we can insert your company logo, a unique design, or a photograph on the light diffuser. Please contact us for details.
Do Sky-Scapes® cut down on the amount of light output?
Sky-Scapes® remove unwanted glare and harsh lighting effects. At first, it may seem slightly darker in the area but you will notice an improvement in the quality and effectiveness of your light. In some cases our light diffusers have helped to reduce headaches and migraines caused by fluorescent lights. In most cases the fluorescent bulbs that you currently use will provide enough light. If more light is needed, a full spectrum light bulb may be used to maximize light output.
Do I have to cut a hole in my ceiling to install Sky-Scapes®?
No. Sky-Scapes® replace your existing fluorescent light diffusers and do not require any special modifications to your ceiling.
Are the diffusers flexible enough to do a dome-type ceiling?
Yes. Sky-Scapes® are flexible, but durable. They are not hard plastic but are bendable, and can conform to curves in lighting structures. We have placed our diffusers in many dome-type fixtures. If you are unsure if our diffusers will work, ask us!
What are Sky-Scapes® made of?
We are currently transitioning to panels made of Durastrong. Please call 800-840-0706 if you are interested in polystyrene or acrylic panels.
What is the difference between Polystyrene and Acrylic Panels?
Polystyrene are the most economical way to enjoy Sky-Scapes®. These panels are lightweight, easier to cut, and with an easier application. Also, they are shipped less expensively due to being shipped in a roll, thus less freight fees to the end user. These have good color reproduction. They are used in areas where lights are only on for the typical workday hours. They are also great to use for seasonal changes!
Acrylic Panels are our premium panels. The visual appearance is mostly the same but a slightly higher light transmittance is noticed. These have a longer life expectancy of 15 years. They do not turn yellow. These panels are used in areas that are lit for 24 hours a day. They are made of a thicker material. They do need a special cutting tool. There are more instances in breakage and cutting. Also, shipping requirements are different than the polystyrene; these panels are shipped flat with more packing material.
